Garissatu.com - Geopolitical tensions in the Middle East have escalated further as the Iranian government officially announced its decision to continue military operations against Israel. This declaration comes despite mounting international pressure for an immediate ceasefire.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani stated in a press conference in Tehran that Iran refuses to comply with international calls for restraint. He affirmed Iran’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, including continued military and logistical aid to resistance groups in Gaza and Lebanon.
In response, Israel raised its national security alert and deployed additional military assets. Iron Dome batteries were activated in the north, and Israeli forces were reinforced along the Lebanon border and the Golan Heights. Israeli authorities have also warned the public of a potential increase in cross-border attacks by Iranian-backed groups.
Reports from Iranian media indicate that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has sent additional supplies, including drones and mid-range missiles, to Syria. These efforts aim to strengthen Iran’s strategic positions and deepen its involvement in the broader anti-Israel resistance axis.
Ali Akbar Ahmadian, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council chief, reiterated that Israel is an illegitimate entity and said Iran will not enter into any negotiations as long as the occupation persists. He added that diplomacy is futile when aggression and oppression remain unchecked.
The situation has raised global fears of a full-scale regional war. Commercial vessels have begun avoiding the Red Sea and Strait of Hormuz due to increased risks of missile and drone attacks. The International Shipping Association has issued advisories warning of potential disruptions to global supply chains.
Crude oil prices spiked sharply in reaction to the conflict. Brent crude rose to USD 97 per barrel — the highest in six months. Uncertainty in the region has also negatively impacted global markets, with stock indexes in Asia and Europe falling.
Palestinian resistance groups, including Hamas and Islamic Jihad, welcomed Iran’s announcement. In a joint statement, they vowed to continue their fight until the occupation is fully eliminated. Hezbollah has also increased its military readiness in southern Lebanon, signaling potential wider engagement.
The United States condemned Iran’s actions as provocative and destabilizing. The White House stated that Iran’s support for armed groups is a primary obstacle to peace and reaffirmed its commitment to Israel’s defense.
Russia and China called for restraint and urged all parties to return to diplomatic dialogue. While stopping short of supporting Iran, both countries expressed concern over civilian casualties and the growing risk of a major regional war.
The European Union has warned that attacks reportedly launched from Iranian-backed territories could trigger broader sanctions. Brussels also called for unconditional humanitarian access to Gaza and other affected regions, as conditions on the ground worsen rapidly.
Civilians continue to bear the brunt of the violence. In Gaza, hospitals are overwhelmed, and water and electricity supplies are critically low. Humanitarian organizations, including the Red Cross and UNICEF, are calling for a humanitarian pause, though no agreements have been reached so far.
Iran maintains that its actions are legitimate resistance against occupation. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei declared in a televised speech that fighting Israel is a moral and religious duty that the Iranian people must uphold.
The United Nations has scheduled an emergency session to address the escalating crisis. However, many analysts remain skeptical, citing the entrenched positions on both sides and a lack of meaningful diplomatic progress.
Iran has also issued a stern warning to neighboring countries not to provide military support to Israel. Though not named explicitly, this appears directed at Saudi Arabia and the UAE, which have recently strengthened security ties with Tel Aviv. Tehran warned that any military bases aiding Israel could become legitimate targets.
With little room for diplomacy and both sides intensifying their positions, observers fear that this conflict may evolve into a prolonged and devastating war. Unless there is a significant shift in regional or international dynamics, the path to peace remains uncertain.
